The Benue Development Forum (BDF) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, for facilitating numerous federal projects in Benue State.
Speaking at a press conference in Makurdi on Friday, February 14, 2025, BDF expressed appreciation for the construction of the Makurdi-Aliade-Otukpo-Enugu road and the newly approved flyover at Wurukum roundabout in Makurdi. According to the forum, this infrastructural investment will ease traffic congestion and improve transportation for both residents and travelers.
The group also lauded the ongoing construction of a bridge across River Buruku, which is expected to put an end to frequent boat mishaps that have claimed lives and property over the years. In addition, BDF acknowledged the federal government’s role in the commissioning of the Benue Fashion Hub and the installation of streetlights in Makurdi, Gboko, and Otukpo.
Highlighting the recent legislative advancements, BDF praised President Tinubu for signing the North Central Development Commission (NCDC) Bill into law, emphasizing that the commission will strengthen infrastructure and economic development in Benue and other North Central states. The group also welcomed the establishment of the Federal College of Agricultural Technology in Opialu Ojapo, Okpokwu LGA, noting its potential to boost agricultural innovation and employment.
BDF credited Senator George Akume for consistently advocating for Benue’s development and ensuring that the state remains a priority in federal initiatives. The forum also commended former Governor Samuel Ortom for fostering unity and urging stakeholders to support the current administration for the greater good of the state.
In light of renewed security concerns, BDF called on Governor Hyacinth Alia to convene a stakeholders’ meeting across party lines to address the resurgence of attacks by armed herdsmen in Benue communities.
The forum reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the federal government’s projects in Benue State and urged all citizens to rally behind efforts aimed at advancing the state’s development.
