NASC Leadership Meets To Chart Fresh Course For Agricultural Seed Development

The Hon. Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Sen. Abubakar Kyari, on Wednesday held a crucial meeting with the newly appointed Board Chairman of the National Agricultural Seeds Council (NASC), Comrade Austin Agada, who also doubles as the APC Chairman in Benue State.

Also in attendance were the Director General of NASC, Hon. Fatuhu Muhammad Buhari, and the immediate past Acting DG, Dr. Ishiak. This strategic engagement marks the first official meeting following the appointment of the new Board Chairman, signaling a prompt and purposeful start as the Council hits the ground running.

The deliberations centered on aligning the Council’s strategic focus with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, with particular emphasis on the critical role of seed quality in achieving food security nationwide.

It was unanimously agreed that quality seeds remain the foundation of any successful agricultural system—serving as the panacea for food sufficiency and the catalyst for unlocking the potential of other value chains within the sector.

They unanimously agreed that without access to good seeds, all other interventions in the agricultural value chain risk being ineffective. The multiplier effect of quality seed production and distribution cannot be overstated—it is the game changer that determines yield, resilience, and productivity.

Stakeholders at the meeting expressed strong confidence in the new leadership team at NASC, reaffirming their readiness to implement far-reaching reforms that will reposition the Council as a pivotal institution in Nigeria’s agricultural transformation journey.
