ENGR. OCHIGBO TAKES OVER AS PRESIDENT Of ICHAMA UNITY FORUM

In a unanimous decision, the Ichama Unity Forum (IUF) has elected John Adoyi Ochigbo, FNMGS, FNAH, and FISL as its new President.

The IUF, a non-partisan and non-religious socio-cultural organisation, aims to promote the development of the Ichama District in Okpokwu LGA.

The newly elected President, Engr. Ochigbo expressed gratitude to the Almighty God and the Forum’s members for entrusting him with the leadership role for the next 3years.

He emphasized the importance of selfless service to the community, stating, “We have been called to a selfless service, and we must see this as an opportunity to give back to our community, not for personal benefits.”

Engr. Ochigbo pledged to build upon the foundation laid by the pioneer Executive Council, led by Elder Lawrence Ogwuche.

His agenda focuses on promoting unity and enhancing the socio-economic lives of the people through new  projects and programmes.

He assured that the Forum would foster collaboration with the traditional council, government, and key stakeholders.

To achieve his vision, Engr. Ochigbo outlined plans for a Needs Assessment to determine the community’s immediate and remote needs.

The Forum would be guided by its Constitution, developed Blueprint, and regular physical meetings would be held in Ichama, Abuja, Lagos and other cities with high density of members.

The President-elect called on all sons and daughters of the community to join hands with the Forum leadership in promoting transparent unity, peace, and development.

“Together, we can achieve greatness and create a brighter future for our members, community and future generations,” he assured.

“I believe it’s crucial to recognize the pivotal role of the visionary behind the Forum’s establishment in 2021, as well as the leadership provided by the Board of Trustees, chaired by Mr Victor Akogwu, an accomplished Banker, Accountant and Entrepreneur.

“The 9-Member Trustees of the Board include personalities such as Mr. Benson Idoko, MWO Comfort Abutu (Rtd), Austin Aleke, Agnes Agbo-Yusuf, Peter Ochigbo, Godwin Apochi and Engr. John Adoyi Ochigbo before his recent election to lead the EXCO, while Mrs Ochanya Ochigbo Esq serves as Board Secretary for the Forum.

“Furthermore, the contributions of other founding members, including our esteemed Grand Patron, Air Vice-Marshal (Chief) Ejeh ER (Rtd), Lady Grace Alfa (Nee Apochi), the Traditional Council led by Chief Emmanuel Owuno amongst other notable community leaders, both locally and in the Diaspora, including some academics,  Professors and Professionals can not go unappreciated. May God continue to bless you all”.

Other elected officials include:

– Barrister (Mrs) Helen Aladi Ottah – Vice President
– Professor Patrick Onah – Secretary
– Mr. James Onoja – Financial Secretary
– Austin Agbo – Public Relations Officer
– Victor Ogenyi – Treasurer
– Pauline Ogenyi – Welfare Officer
– A new Head of the Diaspora Committee will soon be appointed to replace Prince Oche Ali who served in the previous EXCO of the Forum.

Following her inauguration on 4th May 2025, the new EXCO led by the President has embarked on Courtesy Visits to prominent sons and daughters of Ichama, the traditional council and government organisations to garner support for the tasks ahead.

With Engr. Ochigbo at the helm, and the cooperation of all sons and daughters of the Community,  the Ichama Unity Forum is poised to make significant strides in promoting the community’s rich values, development and well-being.

It will be recalled that the organisation in its quest to develop the Ichama community had among its numerous achievements built and equipped a modern police station in Ichama to tackle all aspects of criminality.
